The MVRC uses state-of-the-art equipment and research techniques to study balance control and rehabilitate patients.
Types of Balance Studies
The major goal of the research performed at the MVRC is to study how people maintain their balance while standing as well as during walking. Consequently, we use several devices to examine these two balance areas. When studying standing balance, subjects stand on a platform that is stationary, moves in response to a person's sway, or moves in a predetermined fashion. We assess walking balance by using a treadmill that can be set at predetermined speeds or set so that its speed matches the movements of the virtual environment.
